On Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024, our lives were changed forever. At just 18 years old, Mariah thought the only way to end her suffering was to take her life, leaving loved one’s grief stricken and confused.
Mariah was an incredible person. She was a very kind person who would always try to do good for others and worry more about the people around her than herself. She was a very talented artist and absolutely loved drawing and learning to draw. There was never a place she would go without having a sketchbook in her hands. She was a devoted daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin and of course the best big sister ever. Again, she would always put her family and friends before herself.
Mariah was attending MVCC to pursue her dream of designing logos and branding for companies. She would go into stores and just walk down the aisles, seeing how companies would design their brand and then critique it. Many times, going home to start her rebranding of their product. She was so very talented.
Mariah's sudden death left us shocked, confused and asking the one question we'll truly never know the answer to: Why? And although we may never know the answer, we know what it is like to lose someone so dearly to suicide. During our healing process, we knew we needed to help others who were experiencing what we did and to keep her memory alive. Also, we wanted to help with mental health awareness and suicide awareness with hope to make it known as a real problem here locally and throughout the United States. We hope the Mariah Lacey-Reid Foundation will provide education and comfort in a time that seems unimaginably difficult.
